All Electors for the Town of Sandwich are welcome and entitled to speak and vote on any matters raised.
Confirmation of Mayor Deputies
The following dates have been agreed for Council Meetings in the ensuing year:
Statutory Meetings 2008/9
Monday 4th Aug 2008, Monday 3rd Nov 2008, Monday 2nd Fen 2009.
Annual Meeting (Mayor Making): Thursday 14th May 2009
Civic Sunday: Sunday 17th May 2009
Other Council Meetings:
the first and third Mondays in each month or as otherwise decided by the council.
Confirmation of the Mayor Deputies - Deputies Supper:
9th July 2008
Each Year a ceremony is held for receiving the allegiance of the three places still remaining as 'Limbs' of the Cinque Port of Sandwich, Brightlingsea, Fordwich and Sarre. The elected Mayor Deputies also receive their chain of office. As a token of their allegiance, each Mayor Deputy pays "Ship Money" to the Mayor of Sandwich. The Mayor Deputy of Brightlingsea pays 10 shillings (50p), the Mayor Deputy of Fordwich pays 3 shillings and 4 pence (17p) and the Mayor Deputy of Sarre always pleads poverty because they are only a very small village. Today, of course these are just token payments, but the ceremony is always very well attended and entertaining.

Sarre - Mr. Clive Butler
