Cllr Jeff Franklin

About:

I was born locally at Ashley Farm. I remember Sandwich market from an early age when my father used to bring us to the market on a Thursday. We used to look in awe at the size of the pigs especially the boars with their tusks. Very often the small piglets would escape underneath the bars of the cage and there would be a scramble to catch them by the auction staff. Later we would go to The New Inn where my father would chat to his friends in the bar and leave us in the children’s room with a packet of crisps and a Vimto.

I attended Northbourne Primary School and later Sandwich Secondary Modern. We moved to Eastry and I left school at 15 and started work for a local builder. My main employment was painting and decorating. I have also worked locally for Stevens & Carlotti. Unigate Dairies and Haffenden Richborough Ltd. While at Haffendens I was employed in the warehouse, brass shop and press moulding shop. I was a Union shop steward and works convenor for the GMB union. My last employment was for Drive Assist.

I have lived in Sandwich since 1973 with my wife and three children who attended the local playschool and local schools.
