Cllr Paul Carter, Mayor

About:

I was first elected to Sandwich Town council in 2007 and have served on many different committees and projects to improve the Town over the years. I was voted in as Town Mayor in 2023.

I have strongly supported planning issues having successfully fought major developments on green belt land. I have worked to improve traffic and parking, having been on Joint Transport Board for six years. I have supported local businesses having served on the Chamber of Commerce previously as Secretary.
I have supported services for the elderly fighting for ten years to save Wayfarers old people’s home and to keep Sandwich Library open. I have always supported youth matters having saved and assisted with the Phoenix Youth Hub and children’s playgrounds and Sandwich Tennis club by fighting their closure by DDC many years ago. I have been a school Governor for twenty-two years at Sandwich Technology School.

I strongly support the heritage of Sandwich as Secretary of Sandwich society and Deputy Chairman of Sandwich Local History Society which I have supported for many years now. I was a Dover District Councillor from 2011 to 2019 where I fought for better services for Sandwich, Woodnesborough and Worth. I have been Chair of Sandwich Christmas lights and long serving committee member of Sandwich Festival and supported the early medieval events that we held in our town.
